Manual Setup

SupportID looks for its configuration in two places, in this order:

  1. MDM Managed App Configuration — the normal path. MDM always wins when present.
  2. A manual configuration saved on the device — consulted only when there is no MDM configuration.

Manual setup exists so the app can be evaluated on an unmanaged device. It is not a deployment mechanism: there is no way to push it to a fleet, and every device would have to be filled in by hand.

  1. Open SupportID on a device with no MDM configuration. It shows No Configuration Found.

  2. Tap Configure Manually.

  3. Fill in the form:

    Section Fields
Appearance App Title — the header text (defaults to SupportID)
Device Data Up to five label/value pairs. Add Data Point adds a row; swipe a row to delete it
Sections Show Storage, Show Shortcuts, and the Self Service app
Support Links Contact Support, Privacy Policy, and Terms of Service URLs
  4. Tap Save. Save stays disabled until at least one data point has a value.

The form writes the same keys an MDM would send, so everything documented in the Configuration Keys Reference behaves identically from either source. Rows left empty are saved as hidden data points, and $OSVERSION is resolved on-device here too.

While a manual configuration is active, the hero card carries an On Device badge and Settings gains a Manual Configuration section:

  • Edit Configuration reopens the form, prefilled with the saved values.
  • Remove Configuration deletes the on-device configuration and any saved credentials, returning the app to the No Configuration Found screen.

If an MDM configuration arrives later it takes over automatically. The manual configuration stays on the device but is no longer consulted — remove it if you don’t want it there.

Data Stored in
Configuration values (title, data points, sections, links) UserDefaults, under io.devscape.SupportID.manualConfiguration
Server credentials, if any Keychain, accessible after first unlock, this device only

Credentials are never written to UserDefaults and are never bundled with the app. The credential fields are hidden in the current release — they belong to a pending MDM API integration — so a manual configuration today stores no secrets at all.

A review device isn’t MDM-enrolled, so SupportID’s normal state under review is the No Configuration Found screen. Reviewers reach the working app through Configure Manually; no account, credentials, or network access are required. The app ships an APP_REVIEW_GUIDE with a two-minute walkthrough and sample values to paste into App Store Connect review notes.
